TYGR, Lower Parel, Mumbai

A comparatively new restaurant in Palladium, Lower Parel, serving Thai cuisine. The set up is similar to the erstwhile Rivers to Oceans restaurant with a few changes.

We ordered for Crispy Shrimps Caramelized Thai Raw Mango – an excellent dish to start with. For the main course, we had Diced Chicken Sambal Oelek with Jasmine rice. Again quite a good, wholesome dish. The Crispy Lotus stem was also an interesting appetizer.

Considering that it is a fine dining restaurant, the prices are quite competitive. Service is good.

Nara, Mumbai

Popular restaurant – the place was pretty much full for lunch on a weekday. Interiors are pleasant and welcoming. Service is good as well.

The dishes we tried were:

Tom Yum Soup – Spicy, tangy, yum soup. Totally recommend this. Two of us wanted to share one portion and they did not create a fuss. I find it very irritating when restaurants are unwilling to divide it into smaller portions. The problem is that if I have a full bowl of soup, I won’t be able to eat much of anything else. That’s the reason I usually avoid having a soup.

Gai Tord Samunprai (Crispy fried chicken) – What’s not to love in a fried chicken. Thai herbs enhance the taste of this dish. Would have liked a little sauce on the side though.

Water chestnuts and cashew nuts in a hot chilli paste (Gave up on the Thai name of this one :P) – Good dish again – enjoyed the sauce and the crunchy water chestnuts.
Butterfly pea rice with Thai herbs – Loved the colour of the rice dish. The server explained how the rice was coloured by boiling it with butterfly pea flower. One can happily have the rice dish on its own – it’s so good.

A must-try restaurant in BKC which is already spoilt for choice!

Silk Route, End Point Road, Manipal

This is a little difficult to find. On End Point Road but inside a lane. Close to Country Inn Hotel. Thai restaurant in Manipal.

Here is what we ate:

The Prawn is good but the rice is dry and the plate hardly has any sauce. The cucumber is not seasoned and the egg has obviously been cooked before the other items were ready.

I got desperate for fish (don’t get any in Manipal) and ordered this grilled fish – didn’t quite like the quality of the fish, hardly had any flesh on it, very bony. Sauce was not too great either.

I usually avoid ordering a green curry but this turned out to be the best dish. Well-balanced dish. Had it with steamed rice. Would recommend this dish.

Ambience and service were both average.
